Thistle & Weed 2022 vintage release

Thistle and Weed is a dynamic duo consisting of Etienne Terblanche, the wine grower, and Stephanie Wiid, the winemaker. Together they search for hidden gems in the Cape, with the aim of creating wines that are closely connected to nature and express the pure essence of the terroir.

Their range of 3 single vineyard Chenin Blancs embodies the diversity of the Cape regions: Paarl, Stellenbosch and Swartland.

The adventure started with the Thistle & Weed Duwweltjie in 2016, a wine that has continuously achieved high scores since then. The 2022 Duwweltjie is another gem, coming from an old, certified vineyard that was planted in Paarl in 1961. This wine pampers the senses with expressive aromas of peach and citrus.

The Thistle & Weed Springdoring 2022 comes from a vineyard in Swartland, planted in 1983. This wine embodies the characteristic "hay" of the Swartland Chenin and ends with a firm, mineral aftertaste.

The last Chenin Blanc comes from Stellenbosch, from a vineyard planted in 1980 with 33 different rootstocks as an experiment. The Thistle & Weed Springdoring 2022 offers a rich taste palette with a beautiful salty touch.

Their white blend, the Thistle & Weed Khakibos 2022 , is a tribute to Portugal and Spain, a mix of Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Palomino, Alvarinho and Fernao Pires. This luscious wine is bursting with aromatic explosion.

Khakibos's partner, the Thistle & Weed Nastergal 2022, is also a unique, Portuguese-inspired blend of Tempranillo, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Souzão and Touriga Francesa. Intense in color (thanks to the tenturier grape Alicante Bouschet) and taste, with firm tannins.

Finally, the Thistle & Weed Knapsekêrel 2022, a pure, beautiful 100% Cabernet Franc from the Polka Draai Hills in Stellenbosch. With a subtle aromatic profile of roses and fresh herbs, typical "chalky" tannins and a spicy aftertaste.

De Rall NOA Chenin Blanc 2022 komt van een wijngaard op Paardeberg uit 1969. Gevinifieerd in betonnen eieren en foudres, hier draait het allemaal om een strakke textuur en structuur

De Rall AVA Chenin Blanc 2022, met een kleine productie van 1 307 flessen, komt van twee wijngaarden uit Swartland met voornamelijk leisteen bodem. Lage opbrengsten zorgen voor een unieke textuur die iets voller en rijker is dan de NOA.

Nu zijn 6e release, de Rall AVA Syrah 2022 is de meest expressieve en aromatische rode wijn die hij ooit heeft gemaakt, volgens Donovan. De Ava is een kleine selectie van Syrah van de meest extreme en laagrenderende percelen waarmee Donovan werkt.
